Nobel Laureates to Ban Ki-moon: Appoint Special Envoy to Iran
A group of Nobel Peace Laureates today sent an urgent letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon asking him to do everything in his power to “halt” the grave human rights violations in Iran and secure the release of all political prisoners.
The group—which includes Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jody Williams, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, President Kim Dae-jung and Wangari Maathai—also called upon Ki-moon to send a special envoy to Iran to investigate human rights violations, including government-propagated allegations against Nobel Peace Laureate and human rights defender Dr. Shirin Ebadi.
