Millions to highlight anniversary of elections in Iran on June 12
Meet Bahareh Hedayat. She is one of the over 2,500 prisoners of conscience currently being detained by the Iranian government.
This Saturday, June 12 marks the one-year anniversary of the fraudulent elections in Iran that returned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power. Since that day, the Iranian regime has taken drastic measures to silence every act of political opposition with violent crackdowns and gross human rights violations.
This June 12 millions of people will gather around the world to draw international attention to the brutality of the Iranian government and the plight of Iranian women's and human rights activists, journalists and peaceful demonstrators. A global day of action organized by United4Iran will highlight the year of violence and repression and draw attention to the thousands of prisoners of conscience currently detained in Iran.
Over 80 cities will hold events and advocate for their "adopted" prisoner of conscience. Thousands more will take online action at 12june.org and FIDH's website.
