Call for peace in South Sudan!

Williams started the photo campaign in the wake of recent fighting in Juba, South Sudan. Fighting broke out in the capital city of Juba between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and Vice-President Riek Machar, just days ahead of South Sudan’s fifth anniversary of independence. Fighting continued through the weekend until a ceasefire was declared Monday. At least 40,000 people have been displaced by the violence. Both sides have expressed a willingness to work towards a resolution but no formal talks are planned at this time.
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011. Distrust between President Kiir and Vice-President Machar plunged the country into civil war in 2013. The two men signed peace accords in less than a year ago, in August 2015, but conflict continues.
