Heny L. Cuesta is an Afro-Colombian activist and filmmaker, leader and social-creative manager of cultural and artistic contents. She works with different human rights organizations in Colombia to connect black women artists across Latin America.
How did you get into the work you do?
I started volunteering at human rights organizations in Colombia, in one of the best stages of life, when you know where you come from and what your life purpose is.
What/who inspires you?
I am inspired by 3 things:
-The death, that moment that reminds you that you are alive to move forward.
– Of course my Mom, my greatest reference.
– Those women behind me, who have made history and struggle continue today
What’s one thing you do for self-care?
Physically: I drink water. Emotionally: I dedicate time to myself and do not allow negative or toxic words or people.
What do you do for fun (when you’re not saving the world!)?
Be with my family, see a good series, travel and go dancing!
Name a book, TV show, movie, poem, song, band, piece of art that you’d like to share. Why should people check it out?
My photograph, winner of the prize “Afrodescendants of the Americas”.
What are you most looking forward to at the conference?
What I hope most is to learn about the experiences of each participant and each leader. I’d like to get a broad vision of the struggle of the world for feminist leadership and to weave bonds of work and support. I believe that these are all super powerful for 5 days of work! From here, I believe that the work we have done will never be the same.
Coffee or tea?
If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Jesus, I believe that it is one of the most impressive examples of leadership I have been able to see in history, and Sigmund Freud.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
The power of persuasion and mimicry that allows me to copy the power of all in the conference!
What was the last song you listened to?
So Badly by JMSN.
What’s your favourite snack?
Biche mango with salt or a cheese sandwich.
What’s your hidden talent?
Singer and actress.
