Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire continues to urge peace and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands in recent speech at the Women’s Boat to Gaza Conference at the Swedish Parliament.
“We demand those in power break their silence. So we have to raise our voices. We have to go on the boats. We have to lobby. We have to do everything possible based on nonviolence, international law, and human rights to see that the siege is broken, to see that the Palestinian lands are not occupied.”
Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza since 2007 resulting in shortages of food, clean water, electricity, and healthcare. Maguire has sailed on peace boats to Gaza to protest the blockade on two occasions. Her most recent trip was in 2016.
