Support Colombian defensora: Blanca Nubia Díaz
The New Year brought threats and demands to human rights defender Blanca Nubia Díaz. She has been the target of attempted kidnappings and death threats because of her work fighting for an end to sexual violence in Colombia with the National Movement of Victims of State Crimes (Movimiento de Victimas de Crimenes de Estado – MOVICE).
In 2001, Blanca’s 15 year-old daughter Irina del Carmen Villero Díaz was raped and murdered. Investigations into her death have been slow to progress. Recently, Blanca’s other daughter was raped and has been forced to leave the region for her safety. She continues to be pursued by Colombian paramilitary groups.
Conflict between security forces, paramilitaries and guerrilla groups has resulted in sexual violence and human rights violations towards hundreds of Colombians, particularly women and children.
Write to President Juan Manuel Santos to demand the protection and safety of Blanca Nubia Díaz and all women human rights defenders. Also call on the government to commence a thorough and impartial investigation into the rape, torture and killing of Irina del Carmen Villero Díaz.
