In the context of global uncertainty, hardship, and upheaval, the inspiration that comes from the courage and conviction of the Nobel Peace Prize winners, in their work past and present, is more important than ever. NWI is dedicated to sharing the laureates’ vision of inclusive peace, uniting in solidarity with women peace leaders and human rights defenders around the world, building collective power to amplify non-violent solutions, defend justice, and champion equality.
NWI’s Board of Directors are dedicated to ensuring that the Initiative is much more than the sum of its parts. We have worked over the past year to make the organization, and its modest funding, as effective as possible in advocating for non-violent solutions, in supporting de-militarization, and in amplifying the voices of women peace-makers the world over, particularly young women.
The Nobel Women’s Initiative Board of Directors works to provide strategic oversight and guidance. During 2024, a year of growth for the organization, the Board reviewed and approved the annual budget, workplans, and financial report, as well as endorsed new personnel policies. Board members support NWI by analysing political developments relevant to NWI’s mission, for instance, assessing the implications for women of the illiberal wave that is sweeping peacebuilding and post-conflict governance. The Board has supported efforts to strengthen NWI’s organizational culture and capacity, ensuring that the Initiative is well-positioned to meet the increasing demands of its work. We also welcomed new members to the Board in 2024.
The NWI staff team in 2024 implemented the organisational workplan under our current Strategic Directions, adapting to the changing context. We said goodbye to Acting Executive Director Tania Principe, and welcomed back Executive Director Maria Butler. NWI is enormously grateful for the work Tania did in streamlining internal processes, in refreshing and energising the organizational culture, and in elevating the engagement of all staff in reflection on ongoing political crises. We also welcomed Fabiola Pascal as our new Finance and Operations Manager.
In 2024, as we reflected on the global challenges we face, we were reminded of the power of sisterhood, solidarity, and resilience. Together, we are stronger. Together, we rise. We look forward to continuing this journey with you, our partners and allies, to ensure that women are central to the fight for peace, justice, and freedom.
