Description
Jody Williams travelled to Colombia to stand in solidarity with the Colombian women’s movement and women peacebuilders, on the cusp of the signing of the peace deal between FARC and the Colombian government.
She also celebrated the launch of her memoir in Spanish, “La hippie que llegó a ser Nobel de la Paz.”
In Guatemala Williams met with the abuelas of Sepur Zarco, who fought for justice and reparations for the survivors of 16 years of rape and enslavement at the hands of the military in the small community near the Sepur Zarco outpost. In 2016 two former military officers were convicted of crimes against humanity in the highest court in Guatemala. She also met with the women of El Estor, a community heavily impacted by the Marlin Mine.
