WomenPeaceKorea: A New Era 2018

Description

On April 27th, 2018, the leaders of North and South Korea signed an historic agreement, the Panmunjom Declaration, seeking a formal end to the Korean War and the “complete denuclearization” of the peninsula.

A global coalition of 30 security experts, women’s rights organisations, and leading peace activists from 16 countries, including Laureate Mairead Maguire, joined a delegation to make the most of this key moment in history to demonstrate solidarity with the country’s peace and women’s movements. Events included the International Women’s Peace Symposium in Seoul on May 24th, and a DMZ Peace Walk on May 26th.

Call to Action

Acknowledging that peace in Korea is a global issue, it is critical for the durability of the agreement that women’s movements be included in the peace process.
