Lori Homer of Cold Harbor Spring, NY, is a retired pediatric dental hygienist, whose career centered on the well-being of children. In addition, she served four terms on the Cold Spring Harbor School District Board of Education, including a time as its president during a particularly pivotal period.
For more than 20 years, Lori has served on the board of Save the Children Long Island Council, a volunteer organization committed to raising awareness and funds to create lasting, positive change in the lives of children around the world. As a past president of the Long Island Council, she remains committed to this work, particularly through hands-on experiences with local students. Her greatest passion is a Junior Council for grades 7–12 that she founded in 2011 to inspire young people to understand the importance of helping others. Her husband, Chris, now a retired health educator, has been her partner in the success of the Junior Council. They host meetings and events that support Save the Children, as well as activities to help children in need within the greater Huntington community.
Lori was struck by NWI’s purpose and inspired by Laureate Maria Ressa’s discussion at the reception Circle Member Michelle Smith hosted in April to introduce her friends and clients to the Philanthropy Circle. The mission closely aligns with Lori’s own humanitarian value and desire to make a difference in the world.
She is a graduate of Farmingdale State College with a degree in dental hygiene and from Adelphi University with a degree in psychology. She was actively involved with the Long Island Dental Hygienists’ Association, in the roles of president, editor of the newsletter and chairperson of the employment committee. Lori is the proud mother of two daughters and two stepdaughters. She and her husband also enjoy traveling and exhausting themselves with their four grandchildren as often as possible.
