“A country where everybody has their rights. This is the dream that I have.”
Joyce Diko Duku Tikaya is an amazing feminist activist and poet from South Sudan. When you have lived in conflict for so long, how do you create the space for peace? Joyce challenges patriarchy and militarism by creating a place for teen girls to explore their talents through art and activism. Pretty cool if you ask us. Let her tell you the full story below.
Joyce is the founder of the Lady in Action (LIA) program, a community space for young women to challenge patriarchal stereotypes. Learn more about it here.
Earlier this year Joyce attended Claiming Our Space: Emerging Feminist Voices for Peace—our summit co-hosted by Nobel peace laureate, Leymah Gbowee, and the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa!
