Jody Williams visited Canada’s Capital in advance of the 10th anniversary of the of the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention which was signed in Ottawa in December 1997. That same year, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) and founding coordinator Jody Williams were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work to ban landmines.
While in Ottawa, Professor Williams gave a public presentation at Arts Court on November 30th and held meetings with parliamentarians and government leaders about Canada’s leadership on global issues, such as in the situations in Darfur and Burma. Williams’ advocacy over the past year has primarily been focused on the humanitarian crises in both countries.
