Write for Rights and change a life
Write a letter and change a life! Join thousands of others in calling for freedom and justice for people whose basic human rights are under attack.
Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights is a global letter writing campaign to help release prisoners of conscience, bring torturers to justice, and change laws to protect people’s freedom.
This year’s campaign focuses on 12 people and communities who urgently need support, including:
Liu Ping – Liu Ping is a human rights campaigner who has been sentenced to over 6 years in prison for calling on the Chinese government to step up its fight against corruption.
John Jeanette Solstad Remø – John Jeanette Solstad Remø is a transgender woman who wants to change her gender but faces legal barriers from the Norwegian government.
Women and girls of Mkhondo – Pregnant women and girls in Mkhondo Municipality, South Africa, are dying needlessly because they are not getting vital health care.
In 2013, people in 143 countries took a record-breaking 2.4 million actions as part of the campaign. Three of the prisoners of conscience featured – Yorm Bopha, Vladimir Akimenkov and Mikhail Kosenko – were released, and others said the attention inspired and encouraged them as they continue their fight for justice.
