I’m walking through the streets of al-Quds, and find myself in what is clearly the Christian Quarter. Do I feel awkward or out of place? No. Do I feel threatened? How can I with the smiles and greetings people offer me. I continue walking and as I see people strolling, bargaining, laughing and working, I say to myself, “Life goes on.”
Maghrib is approaching and I notice many Jews walking hurredly into al-Quds. Something’s going on. Fathers several paces ahead of their children, mothers taking in the rear – yes, something is definitely going on. I hear the athan and Muslims begin to assemble. This is cool. People of what the media portrays as “opposing” faiths walking in the same direction for worship and connection to the creator. Yes, from a bird’s eye view, this is cool…
